The application for the SSHRC – Research Development Initiative is now available. (Feb 12/07)
Although the application form for this funding opportunity is not available at the time of posting, potential applicants may want to start thinking about this opportunity. The application deadline is April 9.
SSHRC – Research Development Initiatives
Deadlines:
Faculty of Education – Dean’s Office: no less than one week prior to agency deadline (2-3 weeks prior if you want feedback on your application)
UWO Internal – Research Development Services: no less than 3 days prior to agency deadline.
SSHRC: April 9, 2007 (for a decision July 30, 2007)
Value: up to $40,000 for 1 to 2 years
Description: The program supports research activities which can lead to the development of innovative programs of research. These activities may include intellectual exchanges, critical analyses, research collaboration and new ways of producing, structuring and mobilizing knowledge. In addition, the program encourages developmental activities that promote interdisciplinary, cross-disciplinary and multidisciplinary research.
The program’s overall objective is to support innovative research in its initial stages that will lead to the development of mature research projects. Proposals should not be full-fledged, stand-alone projects that aim at advanced research results. RDI grants are not intended to support ongoing programs of research. Applicants must clearly distinguish their RDI project from previous or ongoing research. The proposal should address and develop a distinct, delimited research issue, present clearly defined plans for the research, and propose a budget that is fully justified by those plans.
Eligibility: Applicant must hold an academic appointment with a significant research component at UWO.
Applications: Applications are available on the above web site. Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant and Dean Signatures). Link to ROLA

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner has announced funding for privacy research.
“Individuals, especially young people, are putting their lives up on the Internet. Pictures, videos, sound, blogs, entries on dating sites and social networking sites of all kinds, are finding their way into permanent archives of the internet, and into other organizations’ information holdings. Personal information is being posted which may come back to haunt the individuals concerned. Do people know or understand the risks involved? Who is in charge? Where does free speech stop? What responsibility do the sites have? How can we better use technologies that limit the collection of data in permanent archives and information holdings? What best practices could be implemented?
Phishing, Pharming, Spam, Identity Theft: what can data protection law and Commissioners do to control these online threats? What are individuals doing to protect themselves? What are the latest problems?”

UWO Internal – Research Development Services: no less than 3 days prior to agency deadline.
