CCL – New Award Program – Recognizing Excellence in Learning

Canadian Council on Learning (CCL) is introducing a new program to celebrate innovative and effective learning initiatives from across the country. Sharing the Flame: Recognizing Excellence in Learning will highlight some of Canada’s most effective practices in each of the following learning themes—Aboriginal learning, adult learning, early childhood learning, health-related learning, and work and learning.

Selected programs will be recognized at a CCL awards ceremony in Ottawa on June 12, 2007, and showcased at a conference on June 13, 2007. The projects will also be featured in an “idea book” that will be distributed in print and electronic format to stakeholders and interested parties across Canada.

CCL is currently seeking nominations for Sharing the Flame: Recognizing Excellence in Learning. Entries are open to individuals and organizations with active projects related to any of the five learning themes.

Please complete and submit CCL’s Sharing the Flame Call for Nominations by Monday, April 2, 2007.

The Centre for Inclusive Education 2007 Conference

The Centre for Inclusive Education, in partnership with The Althouse Press, The London District Catholic School Board, and The Thames Valley District School Board presents its 2007 conference with Dr. Alan Edmunds.

Killam Program Presentation

Research Western is pleased to host Peter Morand, Special Advisor to the Killam Program, Canada Council of the Arts.

KILLAM RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS are offered on a competitive basis to support distinguished Canadian Researchers, normally full professors in Canadian universities, in any of the following broad fields: humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, engineering and studies linking any of the disciplines within these broad fields. Killam Research Fellowships are valued at $70,000 per year. Canadian citizens or permanent residents of
Canada may hold the Fellowships. They are “release time” fellowships, which provide two years of full release from teaching and administrative duties.
KILLAM PRIZES: Up to five prizes of $100,000 each are given annually to eminent Canadian scholars in recognition of distinguished career achievement in the natural sciences, health sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities respectively. Nominees must be Canadian citizens.

Ontario International Strategic Opportunities Program

The International Strategic Opportunities Program (ISOP) provides funding for strategic international collaborations between Ontario research institutions and the global research community. The goal of the program is to improve Ontario’s long-term economic potential by attracting and retaining the best and brightest research talent.

Priority will be given to collaborations with researchers in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, China and India.

Funds received through this program can be spent on:

  • consortia project management, including coordination and administration costs  and management of research grant proposals
  • missions to develop or expand research links in target sectors
  • travel, including research exchange programs and hospitality costs for networking
  • planning, coordinating and/or participating in international workshops, seminars, conferences, exhibitions and meetings to deliver information on best practises and international links
  • publishing the proceeding associated with the above activities

Total funding per research collaboration initiative will normally not exceed $150,000 over three years. The program will generally fund up to 50% of the eligible costs on a one-time basis, with the balance coming from non-Ontario government sources.

Deadline: There will be no formal call for proposals. Completed applications will be reviewed on a quarterly basis.

Faculty of Education -Internal Research & Development Grants

The Faculty of Education, UWO announces a request for proposals for its Internal Research & Development Grant program.

Deadline: April 2, 2007 (for a decision by April 30, 2007)

Amount: up to $2,500 over one year

Description: The purpose of this fund is for initiating research. Preference will be given to probationary faculty.

Eligibility: The fund is restricted to faculty members within the Faculty of Education. Part-time or seconded faculty are not eligible to apply. Faculty may hold only one Internal Research & Development Grant annually.

Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario-Request for Proposals

In the spring of 2006, the Ontario Ministry of Education provided funding to the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO), along with the other teacher federations in Ontario, to conduct professional development for members.

In order to evaluate the impact of the variety of programs, the ETFO is looking for researchers to conduct a program evaluation. The ETFO would be interested in an overall evaluation of the impact that the Ministry funding makes on the programs offered and on its members, as well as an evaluation of some of the individual programs. (A list of the Ministry funded projects is available in my office, 1161B.)

How to apply: If you are interested in this opportunity, you are invited to provide a written outline (no more than 4 pages) of your interest in this project, the research team, the approach you would take and the proposed budget. Ontario Principals’ Council Research Grants

Funding is available annually for research that informs policy and/or practice relating to the role of principals and vice-principals in Ontario public schools

Deadline: April 30, 2007 (for a decision by May 31, 2007)

OPC will award annual research grants to a maximum of $10,000 to support research in the area of school leadership.

Description: The purpose of the research is to provide valuable data and analysis on current trends related to the role of principals and vice-principals in Ontario. Each year a current theme for investigation is selected. The theme for 2007-08 has not been announced.

Eligibility:Applications are invited from educators and educational researchers in Ontario. Principals and vice-principals are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to joint school-based action research proposals from teams from more than one institution – e.g. a school and a university.
