Typically, the program pays for the least-expensive airfare to the destination. Applicants are eligible to receive a maximum airfare of $2000 CAD to Asia and $1500 CAD to Europe and Latin America (exception is given to those residing in isolated areas, such as the three Territories and Arctic Canada). The cultural exchange program will fund only one person per project/event. Furthermore, successful applicants can only receive one grant per two years. In order to effectively use the limited funds of the program by focussing its resources to specific geographical areas, Foreign Affairs Canada has given funding priority to the following destinations: members of the G8 (France, Germany, United Kingdom, United States, Italy, Russia, and Japan) as well as the People’s Republic of China, Brasil, India, Mexico and South Africa.
