CIHR – Operating Grant Program

The CIHR Operating Grant Program (OGP) provides operating funds to support research proposals in all areas of health research. If your program of research is in the health area, you may be eligible for funding from CIHR.

Deadlines:
Faculty of Education Associate Dean’s Office: One week prior to the RW deadline. (2-3 weeks prior if you wish to have extensive feedback on your application. Contact Karen Kueneman.)
Research Western (RW): February 21 (for mailing by RW), February 25 (you are responsible for mailing)
CIHR – Letter of Intent: February 1, 2008  (Letters of Intent are Mandatory)
           – Full Application: March 3, 2008
 

Applications: All registrations (Letters of Intent) and applications for the Operating Grant Program must be submitted electronically using ResearchNET.

Ontario Metropolis Centre – Request for Proposals

CERIS – The Ontario Metropolis Centre has announced a call for research proposals for research projects on immigration and settlement issues that involve a Greater Toronto Area and/or other Ontario community focus.

Amount: 
up to $5000 for synthesis studies
up to $12,000 for original research and secondary data analysis studies

Deadline:
Associate Dean (GPR): At least one week prior to the agency deadline (2-3 weeks if you wish to have feedback on your application – please submit to Karen Kueneman)
Research Western: At least 3 days prior to the agency deadline
CERIS: Friday, January 18, 2008 at 4:00 pm.

Description:
The 2008 Call for Research Proposals will focus on policy relevant research questions associated with the six CERIS Research Domains:
i.          Citizenship and Social, Cultural and Civic Integration
ii.          Economic and Labour Market Integration
iii.         Family, Children and Youth
iv.         Justice, Policing, and Security
v.         Welcoming Communities: Building Capacity in Regions, Cities, and Neighbourhoods
vi.         Health and Well-being

CERIS is interested in funding three categories of research projects:
1) synthesis of research findings from the literature;
2) original research (qualitative and/or quantitative); and
3) secondary data analysis. 

Eligibility: Principal investigators must hold an appointment at an Ontario university and be eligible to hold a research account. Research proposals should involve research collaboration with community partners or support by community groups, where appropriate.

SSHRC Internal Conference Travel Program

SSHRC Internal Conference Travel Awards are to enable faculty and post-doctoral fellows to take part in research-related meetings/conferences of major scholarly significance in disciplines normally supported by SSHRC. The program will fund participation in both regular international congresses and more narrowly focused conferences and seminars which take place more than (500 kilometers) from London, Ontario; applicants must be presenting a paper at the conference. Applications to attend Learned Societies meetings (i.e. SSHRC Congress) or personal development events will not be accepted. Breadth of participation and decanal recommendation will be two major criteria for determining whether or not an award should be made.

Amount: $7,000 (maximum) The awards cover travel and subsistence costs only.

Eligibility: A Principal Investigator (PI) must hold an academic appointment with a significant research component at UWO and must be eligible to hold a research account

Timing of Conference: There are no longer any restrictions as to when the conference must occur. However, retroactive requests for conferences occurring prior to the application date for a particular competition will receive a lower priority.

SSHRC Internal Research Program

SSHRC Internal Research Awards are to support the cost of research initiatives in disciplines normally supported by SSHRC and are intended for research projects of modest scope. The competitions are for seed money, one-time requests, and projects of short duration. Applications may be made for new research initiatives. Requests for funds to supplement existing operating or research grants, to augment funds for larger projects (funded or applied for), or to attend conferences generally will not be accepted.

Amount: maximum $7,000 (over one year)

Canadian Foundation for Innovation – Infrastructure Funds

December 4, 2007

The Candian Foundation for Innovation has received $510M for another competition to further fund major infrastructure projects.  It is expected that this CFI competition will be announced shortly, and will consist of a New Initiatives Fund (NIF) and a Leading Edge Fund (LEF) competition, as in previous rounds. 
 
In anticipation Research Western will hold information sessions regarding how to apply for these large CFI grants and what supports are available.
