The University of Western Ontario Academic Development Fund (ADF) New Research and Scholarly Initiatives Award, Small Grants Competition applications and instructions are now available.
Deadlines:
Faculty of Education Assoc Dean’s Office: March 3, 2008 (if you wish feedback on your application allow 2-3 weeks – submit to Karen Kueneman)
University Secretariat: March 17, 2008 (for a decision in June 2008 – start date July 1, 2008)
Value: $8,500 maximum (for up to 2 years)
Description: The ADF’s Small Grants Competition supports the cost of research projects of modest scope. Applications may be made for new research initiatives. Preference will be given to applications that offer a clear rationale for the proposed research, exhibit innovation, and contain a budget explaining fully how the money requested will be spent. In addition, preference will be given to those faculty members striving to get programs of research established and to those who, during the past three years, have not received funds through the SSHRC Internal Research competitions or the Academic Development Fund (ADF).
Eligibility: Researchers in all disciplines are eligible. At the time of application, the principal applicant must be a regular, full-time faculty member at Western (including the Robarts Research Institute) OR at the Lawson Health Research Institute with a faculty appointment at Western, OR be a faculty member at one of Western’s Affiliated University Colleges with an additional appointment to Western, either through a Western academic department or the Faculty of Graduate Studies, OR be a Professor Emeritus at Western with a casual appointment at the rank of Adjunct Research Professor – Independent Research Required.
Full Applications are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant and Assoc. Dean Signatures).

The organizing committee is providing faculty, staff and students of the Faculty of Education with several formats to facilitate participation. A general description of each format is provided in the ”Call for Exhibits” file attached below and will is also be posted on the Education Research Day website (not yet available). Regardless of which format you choose, you are asked to please submit the ‘Intent to Present’ form by Monday, March 3, 2008. Please use the form attached below.
Please send your ‘Intent to Present’ form by Monday, March 3, 2008 to Dr. Elizabeth Nowicki (enowick2@uwo.ca) if your work is in the area of Counseling, EPSE, or Policy/Leadership. If your work is in the area of Curriculum or GESJ, please send your ‘Intent to Present’ form to Dr. Shelley Taylor (taylor@uwo.ca ). The form is attached to this e-mail and will is also be posted on the website.

Research Development & Services: February 15, 2008
Description: This program recognizes, promotes and supports outstanding new faculty researchers whose work is particularly innovative, impacts positively on the learning environment in the department in which they study, and has the potential to be of significance to society at large. The program is intended to help attract and retain bright young minds at Canadian Universities and institutes and to help young researchers launch their scholarly careers and enable them to carry their research forward. Full-time faculty members with an appointment at Western are eligible from the date of their initial offer of appointment at a university up to their 8th year on faculty.
Note: The competition is open to all subject areas. However, priority will be given to areas of special interest to Petro-Canada
Applications are processed through Research Development & Services and must be accompanied by a completed RDAF.
