Abstract:The Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) is an internationally recognized educational development program offered at over 100 institutions worldwide. To date, however, empirical research that assesses the impact of the program on teaching effectiveness is lacking. In order to address this gap, we collected data on the ISW at four universities and one community college in Ontario using both mixed method and quasi-experimental designs. The results offer important insights into how the workshop helps to develop student-centred, reflective practices among faculty. Overall, our research represents an important step in determining how educational development programs like the ISW affect faculty members’ approaches to teaching.
