R is a popular open source statistical package for data analytics and graphics. R is available for free download from http://cran.ca.r-project.org for use on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
This course is a full day introduction to R, and will be held in the Weldon Instruction Room (ground floor, The D.B. Weldon Library) on October 30, 2014. In the morning (9:00 to 12:00), after a general introduction, we will learn the basics of R as a calculator, as a way to draw statistical graphics, and as a statistical package. In the afternoon (1:00 to 3:30), we will learn basic programming in R: how to write our own functions to automate analyses. The day finishes with a survey of R packages.
The course is presented by Prof. Duncan Murdoch of the Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences at Western. Prof. Murdoch has been a member of the R core developer team for more than 10 years, and has given numerous talks and short courses on R all around the world.
To register for the course, please complete the form at https://www.lib.uwo.ca/workshops/statistics/. The Weldon Instruction Room provides computers for twenty-eight participants.
