Mary J. Wright Research and Education Centre

September 21, 2015

Formal approval has been granted by the Vice-President Research for the Mary J. Wright Centre, which will be located in a “soon to be announced” Community Agency.

All researchers within the Faculty of Education interested in research focusing on early childhood are particularly encouraged to seek membership in the Mary J. Wright Centre and see it as a supportive site for their research and practice. The Centre hopes to build strong interdisciplinary collaborations amongst researchers so as to promote “ground-breaking” research.

Western’s  Mary J. Wright Research and Education Centre is a community-university partnership between the Faculty of Education, Western University, and a Community Agency (“soon to be announced)  – a collaboration that is committed to generating, coordinating, and overseeing state-of-the-art interdisciplinary research that has the potential to inform our understanding of the conditions that influence early childhood outcomes and, in turn, the development of evidence-based early childhood education and intervention programs and services.   Specific attention is paid toward translational research designed to address significant inequalities in opportunity, foster the health and well-being of our most vulnerable children, and identify the protective processes for enhancing outcomes for all children.  Researchers are also committed to serving as “capacity-building” agents who hold responsibility for sharing their research and development with child professionals to build ownership and capacity for the institutionalization and sustainability of their findings.  Moreover, emphasis is also directed toward preparing the next generation of developmental and family researchers and professionals through service learning, practicums, and internships.

Please contact Dr. Vicki Schwean if you wish to be a member of the Centre.
